“The Staple Crop Processing Zone is an area of high production to which we are putting in the enabling environment to attract private sector food processing companies to come in to and process and add value to our commodities.
“It is a big game changer for agriculture and the ADB and the World Bank are so excited about it that they have asked other African countries to copy Nigeria.

Nyako's Incitement Against Government Irresponsible-FG

The Federal Government has referred to Murtala Nyako's inciting letter to northern governors as an act of irresponsibility. The government also called on Nigerians especially those in positions of authority to desist from make statements capable of affecting the morale of troops battling insurgents.
The Federal Governments position was made known on wednesday by the Minister of Information,Mr.Labaran Maku.
Maku said“Each time the security people strike at targets, there is a lot of public uproar and propaganda, weakening our national resolve to fight terror. This nation deserves security at this time, even in the heat of it, you hear some irresponsible comment coming from highly placed people, including a governor.
“It’s regrettable when those statements come from people we believe should be leading the course of unity, appreciating the great job the security personnel are doing. If only Nigerians understand that as we sit in this hall, our security people are out there in the bush, sleeping there day and night and getting killed in the course of maintaining the security of this country.
“But what we see is that people who have little knowledge on how security services are rendered will just open their mouths and make statements that create panic in the country and this is very unfortunate.
“To hear the kind of things being said by the governor of Adamawa State at this period is very unfortunate.
Nyako is a former Chief of Naval Staff, someone that has worn uniform before. To publicly incite the people against the security forces of this country is the height of irresponsibility.”

“What is his aim? Does he wants northerners to pick up arms against the Federal Government or what? These are comments that should not come from leaders who want the nation to progress and move forward; moreso, like a state governor and a retired military officer.
“How can he prove the allegation he made against President Goodluck Jonathan that he is encouraging genocide in the country? Doesn’t he realise the implication of this kind of statement? And that the statement can set Nigeria on fire; does it augur well for national stability and unity of the country?”

I Did Not Deploy Soldiers To Stop Lagos Project-Senator Obanikoro

Minister of State for Defence,Senator Musiliu Obanikoro has debunked rumours making the rounds that he depolyed and mandated soldiers to stop an ongoing project in Lagos State. He said as a Minister,he had no such mandate to deploy troops with the purpose of stoping any project in any part of the country.

The Minister said“By the grace of God, I am a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I cannot take the military to stop any project. I don’t have such mandate and I cannot go beyond my bounds.

“I reside in Lagos State. I am a stakeholder in Lagos State. I cannot do anything stupid,” he said.

The minister condemned the location of the estate, as well as the cost at which citizens would acquire the accommodation.

“Governor Fashola said ‘low cost’, it is not low cost. You cannot build a low cost housing estate on water, it’s not done anywhere in the world.

“How can a Governor in good conscience tell me that a N16 million 2-bedroom flat is low cost?” Obanikiro asked, adding that as a minister whose annual salary is N2 million, he cannot not even have afforded that.

“When Alhaji Jakande was Governor, I bought a form for N1.50k; I was a clerk working in Union Bank, he actually built for the poor. I bought a form, I bought a flat, and you paid N1,500 to be a house owner at that time.”

Presidency Describes Nyako's Letter As An Unmitigated Leadership Disaster

Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State on friday sent out a letter to the 19 governors of the northern States. In the letter, the governor accused President Jonathan of carrying out genocide attacks on the northern part of Nigeria. He sadly preached hatred and disunity by attempting to pitch the north against the Federal Government and other parts of Nigeria. The Presidency has therefore swiftly reacted to its contents. In a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs,Dr.Doyin Okupe, the Presidency described the letter as"an unmitigated leadership disaster and a sad betrayal of trust by a major beneficiary of the Nigerian nation".

The statement read, “Governor Nyako claims
that President Goodluck Jonathan is from the Eastern region which according to
him was responsible for the killing of Northern political elites on the 15th of
January 1966!
“This is a very disgraceful remark by the governor and a
pathetic embarrassment to the Nigerian Military from where Nyako derives his
career antecedents. It is certainly a reflection of the Governors  ignorance and
unpatriotic inclinations.
“Similarly, the Adamawa state governor referred
to the Boko Haram terrorist group as a ‘phantom organization’ which he believes
does not exist! How hypocritical!?
“In his unwise and desperate attempt
to demonise the Federal Government, Governor Nyako likened the military
operations against insurgents to the activities of German dictator, Adolf
Hitler!
“In his befuddled mind and apparent hallucination, the Federal
Government should be held responsible for the activities of insurgents in the
North East and the sad killings, wanton destruction, murder and kidnapping of
school children as well as other horrendous activities of Boko Haram should be
hung on the neck of the Federal Government!
“He therefore invited his
colleague northern governors to join him to sue the Federal Government. This
definitely defies common sense and portrays Mr Nyako as unfit for the hallowed
position of a State Governor.”

“It is obvious that Governor Nyako’s opposition to the declaration
of a State of Emergency in three affected states of the North East as well as
his repeated calls for the withdrawal of the Military from troubled states
without any credible alternative or security road map, is an open endorsement of
the activities of the insurgents which is meant to provide them unrestricted
opportunity to further unleash terror on innocent citizens in order to
precipitate chaos, further instability, mayhem and anarchy ; a situation which
they intend to exploit to undermine the administration and truncate our growing
democracy. This, Nigerians will surely not allow to happen.

"The Federal Government assures Nigerians of its continuos determination to defeat terror and
restore peace to every part of northern Nigeria so that every law abiding
Nigerian citizen can go about with his/her socio economic pursuit without let or
hindrance in all parts of the country,” the statement added.
Okupe went further to say the purpose of the letter was to cause disaffection among Nigerians. He further recalled how governor Nyako was attacked by youthsfrom his state as a result of his failure to cateer for or support victims of terrorists attacks in the state.

President Goodluck Jonathan's Easter Message To Nigerians

Dear Compatriots,

I greet you all, especially our Christian brothers and sisters who are celebrating Easter and commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ today.

As we join Christians in other countries of the world in celebrating Easter this year, I urge all Nigerians to reflect on the significance of its lessons of piety, obedience to higher authorities, self sacrifice for the good of others, redemption, salvation, deliverance, renewal and the ultimate triumph of good over evil.

These lessons of Easter and other injunctions on brotherly love, peaceful co-existence, tolerance, honesty, humility, justice, equity and fairness to all without discrimination contained in the Gospels are of particular importance to us as a nation as we continue to contend with the challenges of nation-building and development.

As our Christian compatriots celebrate the Messiah’s triumph over death and all that it connotes, let us all renew our faith and confidence in our ability as a people to overcome all obstacles, challenges and threats to national progress and well-being, including terrorism and other criminal attacks on our people in some parts of the country.

My belief in our ability to overcome all retrogressive and divisive forces in our midst and build a strong, united and prosperous nation by turning our unique diversity into a source of strength remains unshaken and we will continue to work with all interest groups and stakeholders in the country to achieve the peaceful, secure and politically stable conditions essential for rapid socio-economic development.

In spite of the evil machinations of terrorists, criminals and their collaborators, our Administration remains ardently focused on efforts to successfully execute the Federal Government’s Agenda for National Transformation and achieve sustained development.

We have already made notable advances in this regard. As a result of our efforts and those of previous administrations, the Nigeria economy is now the largest in Africa and the 26th largest in the world.

But we cannot afford to rest on our oars. Much remains to be done and we will continue to count on the patriotic support of all Nigerians as we strive to achieve more inclusive economic growth, generate more national wealth and create more employment opportunities to meet the demands of our increasingly youthful population.

I commend the leadership and delegates to the ongoing National Conference, the vast majority of who have shown a patriotic and praiseworthy commitment to national unity, peace and progress built on justice, fairness and equity for all component parts of the country.

As the Conference breaks into committees to continue its deliberations, it remains our hope and expectation that the end result will be meaningful and enduring contributions towards strengthening national unity and fulfilling our collective desire for a better and greater nation.

Once again, I extend heartfelt commiserations to all the families who have sadly lost loved relatives in recent terrorist attacks.

Our thoughts and sympathies remain with all those who have suffered injuries from the heinous attacks. We pray for their speedy recovery and shall keep on doing everything possible to assist them with required medical services and material support.

Our Armed Forces and security agencies will continue to do their very best to curb such attacks and restore full security to all parts of our beloved country.

But we must all become more alert and vigilant, and do all that we can to give them the fullest possible assistance, support and cooperation they require to achieve more effective protection of lives and property across the country.

We shall continue to count on your support and prayers for greater peace, harmony, progress and prosperity in Nigeria.

May God Almighty bless our dear nation and guide us, always.

Happy Easter to you all.

Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR

President

Federal Republic of Nigeria

PDP Says APC Aids And Abets Terrorism

The Peoples Democratic Party has reacted to the decision by the All Progressive Congress governors to stay away from the National Security Council meeting convened yesterday by President Goodluck Jonathan. The party said the APC aids and abets terrorrism in the country.A statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh read as follows,"When we said that the All Progressive Congress as it is presently constituted aids and abets terror in Nigeria, by omission and commission, some Nigerians doubted us.
"But what further proof can there be of the culpability of the APC than the decision of its governors to shun the National Security Council meeting called by the President to deliberate on ways to bring the sponsors of terror and their footmen to book?
"It is important to note that APC governors do not shun meetings where the Federal Government takes care of their financial interests. But as this meeting is meant to take care of the interest of Nigerians, they shunned it.
"It is certainly more than curious that APC governors, particularly those whose states are at the thick of the Boko Haram insurgency are the ones who are trying to subvert meetings called to address the malaise.
"Nigerians should be conscious of their antics and read the body language of the APC.They may make the appropriate noises from time to time, but in the fight against terrorism, action speaks louder than words,"Metuh said.

In A Display Of Rebellion,APC Governors Shun Security Meeting Convened By President Jonathan

Governors under the All Progressive Congress have shunned a security meeting called by President Goodluck Jonathan. The meeting which became necessary as a result of the bus station bombing which occured earlier this week and other terrorists activities which have become a source of worry was billed to have all the Security Chiefs in attendance including the 36 State governors. But unfortunately, the APC governors deliberately avoided the meeting.
One then begins to wonder how this party intends to"rescue Nigeria",if i may quote them. Will they achieve this by opposing every step taken by the federal government which is meant to improve the welfare of the people?Nigerians, take note.

President Jonathan's Presence In Kano,A Message To Terrorists-FG

The federal government has stated that President Goodluck Jonathan's presence in Kano yesterday was a message to the terrorists that their activities could not stop government from functioning. This is in direct response to some people who have criticised the President for being part of a PDP Rally held yesterday in Kano,a day after the Nyanya bombing.

This was contained in a statement released by Minister of Information,Mr Labaran Maku.He said, “You will notice that whenever there is any significant story, something will just come negatively. So the purpose is to demoralise, disrupt government, society and to set people against each other and create paralysis.
“So if we are to say we will do nothing because of the strike, then it means that terrorists would have successes in putting a stall each time they strike on our country.
“Going to Kano was a loud statement that terrorists will not stop this country from moving and from working.
“On the day it happened, the President had already suspended all his activities and focused on it. Politicians will still want to exploit even the most dark moment for political advantage and this is what we should not do.
“We should not be exploiting the emotions of citizens for cheap political points. People will use everything including murder, including trauma like what we have gone through to score cheap political points and this is really very sad.
“Politicians must not exploit the suffering of people just to score cheap political points.
“The President is mourning and is already working with everybody and with every institution to ensure that we not only meet the needs of the living and care for those who have survived but continuously work to perfect our security architecture to ensure greater safety of Nigerians.”

Why We Say Buhari,Atiku And Other APC Leaders Are Behind Insurgency Crisis-Olisa Metuh

The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party has given reasons why the party has constantly stated that leaders of the opposition All Progressive Congress were behind the insurgency crisis in Nigeria. The party accused General Muhammadu Buhari, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former FCT Minister Nasir el-Rufai and Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi of making utterances that helped the insurgency in the country.

“When the PDP said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is responsible for the spate of terror in Nigeria, many had an emotional response but it is now time to dispassionately focus on the facts in order to stop the carnage on innocent Nigerians, he said.
The party emphasised that it was not coincidence that after General  Muhammadu Buhari “beckoned on his supporters to go on lynching spree should he lose the 2011 presidential election, an unprecedented violence  broke out claiming the lives of hundreds of innocent Nigerians.”
He said also “Nigerians have not forgotten that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, in a spirited bid to stop President Jonathan from contesting the 2011  election declared on the 14th of December 2010 that ‘those who make  peaceful change impossible make violent change inevitable.’
“Atiku’s statement was collaborated by one of his close associates, Alhaji  Lawal Kaita, who in October 2010, while rejecting the emergence of a  President from the South, also said, ‘the North is determined, if it happens, to make the country ungovernable for President Jonathan or any other Southerner who finds his way to the seat of power....Even if he uses incumbency power to get his nomination on the platform of the PDP, he would be frustrated out.’
“On the 23rd of January 2014, APC Deputy National Secretary, Malam Nasir  El-Rufai, said ‘The next election is likely to be violent and many  people are likely going to die. And the only alternative left to get power is to take it by force’ this is the reality on ground,” the statement said.
“We were not surprised when Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi now a leader in the APC, in inciting his followers recently said, ‘I came to Bori to prove to you that you don’t need to run away from violence. If a man is chasing you with AK-47, you should carry machine gun and the man will call for peace.’”

VAT:Supreme Court Strikes Out Lagos State Government Suit Against Federal Government

The Supreme Court has struck out a suit filed by  the Lagos State Government challenging the powers of the Federal Government to assess and collect taxes on the supply of goods and services within the state.
The Justices of the Supreme Court on friday unanimously upheld the Federal Government’s preliminary objection that the apex court lacked the jurisdiction to hear the suit on the ground that it concerned acts of a federal agency and could not therefore form the basis for invoking the original jurisdiction of the court, as sought by the Lagos State Government.
The apex court held that the suit was not only an abuse of court process but also amounted to "forum shoping".
In the lead judgment prepared by Justice M. D. Mohammed, the Supreme Court equally declined jurisdiction to hear the suit and stated that it was therefore not necessary to determine the issues raised by Lagos State government.

Federal Government Ready To Pay Striking Polytechnics And Collages Of Education Staff-Nyesom Wike

Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, on Friday said Federal Government was committed to paying the striking Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union, their arrears.
Acording to a statement issued by his Special Assistant (Media), Simeon Nwakaudu,he said the Federal Government was not happy that Polytechnics and colleges of education were still shut down
The Minister said“There was no time that the Federal Government paid ASUU their entitlements in one fell swoop. We are paying them in installments. That is the same offer that we have made to the Ploytechnics and Colleges of Education staff. We have offered to pay them in two installments for them to return to the class. We have concluded negotiation and we urge ASUP and COEASU to shift ground in the interest of the students and the nation.
“Negative propaganda against the government will not help resolve the problem. These problems were on ground for years and the Jonathan administration has agreed to resolve them. The resolution cannot be in one day.”

PDP More Democratic Than APC-President Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan has described the Peoples Democratic Party as a more democratic party compared to other opposition parties like the APC.The President said the PDP would not cancel ward congresses without considering the wishes of its members. He made the declaration today in Enugu during the PDP South-East rally tagged Unity Rally. The President described the PDP and rightly so as the only political party that listens to the voice of the people.

"We are not like one party in this country where one man or a group of people determine how the party is run," said the President.
He said, "the national chairman of the PDP or any of its governors can’t cancel a ward congress of the party just like that and with impunity. I, as the President, don’t even have the powers to do so, but it is happening in a political party in this country."
"One party tags itself as progressives but where are they progressing to. It is only in such progressive party that you find an ex-governor determining who gets what and how. Is that what you mean by progressives?"
The President also urged Igbos to support the PDP as the only party that would not let them down.
"It is the only party where the President would not impose a candidate. It is the only party where people like me from a non-privileged background can stand here and talk,"he said.
"In the South-East, the PDP is total. Every state has a maximum of three senators and a minimum of three senators. It is now clear the South-East is a PDP zone."
He added, "We will take over the governorship seat of the other state in the South-East come 2015. We have been very magnanimous but we are going to clear the seats totally."

Federal Government Inaugurates Committee on Grazing Reserves

In order to guide against future cases of clashes between herdsmen and farmers across the country, the federal government on friday inaugurated a committee on grazing reserves in Nigeria. The committee has been tasked with the duty of working out modalities for the establishment of more grazing reserves in the country. The committee is expected to produce its report within two weeks from today.
The Minister of Agriculture who inaugurated the committee said representatives were taken from the Federal Ministries of Environment,Works,Science and Technology,Interior and Water Resources
Other representatives include officials from the National Orientation Agency, International Institute of Livestock Agency and commissioners of agriculture from the affected states, amongst others.
During the inauguration, the Minister said"Another challenge we face with respect to our grazing reserves is the issue of climate change. Herdsmen, as a result of climatic changes, are forced to move down south with their cattle".
"And in addressing these challenges, there are short, medium and long term solutions. This committee will look at all of them and given the urgency of the matter, the committee does not have more than two weeks to come out with its report,"the Minister said.
This is a commendable move which clearly shows that this government is committed to the walfare of the common man.

APC Ward Congress:A Rape On Internal Democracy

If any one had been in doubt as regards the mode of operation of the All Progressive Congress and how they intended to go about their self proclaimed mission to rescue Nigeria, then the recently conducted APC Ward Congress might have cleared such doubts.
The APC after several months of operating with interim ward executives or no executives at all finally conducted its ward congresses in the various states under its control.Nigerians expected an exercise built on the foundation of internal democracy with candidates for elective positions choosen according to the wishes of party members. The reason for this line of thought was not far fetched;the APC prides itself as a gathering of progressives who are out to rescue Nigerian. But like a leopard that never changes its spot, the APC gave Nigerians a doze of what to expect in 2015.
During the ward congress of"the party out to rescue Nigerian",Nigerians witnessed a naked display of gangsterism, thuggery, godfatherism, favouritism, selection and the glorification of undemocratic tendencies. It is now clear that this party is yet to rescue itself and if this is correct, how then do they intend to rescue Nigeria?Your answer is as good as mine.
The aftermath of the congress has left the party in flames. While some aggrieved members have decided to leave the party, others have registered their protest and also called for an outright cancelation of the exercise. In Edo State, governor Adams Oshiomhole has cancelled the exercise in seven local governments.Still in Edo state,an aide to the governor Mr.Agharese Idubor together with one hundred and fifthy other APC members defected to the ruling PDP.Mr Idubor who spoke onbehalf of others said their defection was as a result of the betrayal they suffered in the hands of the APC leadership during the ward congresses. In Gombe state,a faction of the APC has also called for the outright cancellation of the exercise. From Lagos to Maiduguri,Port Hacourt to Zamfara, tales of bastardization of democracy during the APC ward congresses are told.
Inspite of all these, the loquacious Interim National Publicity Secretary of the APC,lai Mohammed continues to exhibit his ignorance by needlessly abusing the PDP and the government of the day even when the Bible instructs him to remove the plank from his eyes before looking at the speck in another man's eye.Perhaps the reaction of the PDP through its National Publicity Secretary,Chief Olisa Metuh clearly puts the sorry congresses conducted by the APC in proper pespective. He described the APC as a camp of vampires ready to devour even their own.
"The savagery witnessed in the exercise which came eight months after the registration of the party, offers a glimpse into the confusion and brutality that will be the order of the day if the APC is allowed to hold power in 2015.
A passerby would have thought the so-called APC congress was a meeting of thugs as detailed hooligans took over the process on the directives of their party overlords and dealt harshly with members who dared to contest for positions already appropriated to handpicked stooges of the owners of the party.
From Lagos to Borno, Rivers to Zamfara, the story is consistently the same; a tale of cronyism, thuggery, violence and general disregard for the principles of democracy.
Not only did those from the old ACN emasculate their so-called partners, but also they did so in the most uncivilised and barbaric manner, deploying thugs, and using official state apparatus to ensure that they had their way.
In states where the owners of the party felt they could not have their way, the process was manipulated to create confusion resulting in the shelving of the exercise. For instance, while the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, was announcing that the congress would go on nationwide as planned, the APC chairmen in Rivers,  Plateau, Bauchi and the FCT announced the postponement of the exercise in their states.
These are the ‘progressives’ and ‘democrats’ that  want to rescue Nigeria.
This is the same party that called the Independent National Election  Commission (INEC) names and asked for the resignation of its board over  the conduct of the Anambra State governorship election due to slight hitches experienced  in that exercise. Will the APC now be honourable enough to call for its  own disbandment seeing that they had experienced not slight, but massive hitches in their own congress? If the APC cannot manage its own internal affairs, how can it manage a country as complex as Nigeria?
We know the history of this party and the pedigree of its leaders will hardly yield to democracy, but we are confident that our assistance is handy here," the statement said.
As a failed project,i knew long ago that the APC was dead on arrival.Nigerians,be wise!
