APC Ward Congress:A Rape On Internal Democracy

If any one had been in doubt as regards the mode of operation of the All Progressive Congress and how they intended to go about their self proclaimed mission to rescue Nigeria, then the recently conducted APC Ward Congress might have cleared such doubts.
The APC after several months of operating with interim ward executives or no executives at all finally conducted its ward congresses in the various states under its control.Nigerians expected an exercise built on the foundation of internal democracy with candidates for elective positions choosen according to the wishes of party members. The reason for this line of thought was not far fetched;the APC prides itself as a gathering of progressives who are out to rescue Nigerian. But like a leopard that never changes its spot, the APC gave Nigerians a doze of what to expect in 2015.
During the ward congress of"the party out to rescue Nigerian",Nigerians witnessed a naked display of gangsterism, thuggery, godfatherism, favouritism, selection and the glorification of undemocratic tendencies. It is now clear that this party is yet to rescue itself and if this is correct, how then do they intend to rescue Nigeria?Your answer is as good as mine.
The aftermath of the congress has left the party in flames. While some aggrieved members have decided to leave the party, others have registered their protest and also called for an outright cancelation of the exercise. In Edo State, governor Adams Oshiomhole has cancelled the exercise in seven local governments.Still in Edo state,an aide to the governor Mr.Agharese Idubor together with one hundred and fifthy other APC members defected to the ruling PDP.Mr Idubor who spoke onbehalf of others said their defection was as a result of the betrayal they suffered in the hands of the APC leadership during the ward congresses. In Gombe state,a faction of the APC has also called for the outright cancellation of the exercise. From Lagos to Maiduguri,Port Hacourt to Zamfara, tales of bastardization of democracy during the APC ward congresses are told.
Inspite of all these, the loquacious Interim National Publicity Secretary of the APC,lai Mohammed continues to exhibit his ignorance by needlessly abusing the PDP and the government of the day even when the Bible instructs him to remove the plank from his eyes before looking at the speck in another man's eye.Perhaps the reaction of the PDP through its National Publicity Secretary,Chief Olisa Metuh clearly puts the sorry congresses conducted by the APC in proper pespective. He described the APC as a camp of vampires ready to devour even their own.
"The savagery witnessed in the exercise which came eight months after the registration of the party, offers a glimpse into the confusion and brutality that will be the order of the day if the APC is allowed to hold power in 2015.
A passerby would have thought the so-called APC congress was a meeting of thugs as detailed hooligans took over the process on the directives of their party overlords and dealt harshly with members who dared to contest for positions already appropriated to handpicked stooges of the owners of the party.
From Lagos to Borno, Rivers to Zamfara, the story is consistently the same; a tale of cronyism, thuggery, violence and general disregard for the principles of democracy.
Not only did those from the old ACN emasculate their so-called partners, but also they did so in the most uncivilised and barbaric manner, deploying thugs, and using official state apparatus to ensure that they had their way.
In states where the owners of the party felt they could not have their way, the process was manipulated to create confusion resulting in the shelving of the exercise. For instance, while the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, was announcing that the congress would go on nationwide as planned, the APC chairmen in Rivers,  Plateau, Bauchi and the FCT announced the postponement of the exercise in their states.
These are the ‘progressives’ and ‘democrats’ that  want to rescue Nigeria.
This is the same party that called the Independent National Election  Commission (INEC) names and asked for the resignation of its board over  the conduct of the Anambra State governorship election due to slight hitches experienced  in that exercise. Will the APC now be honourable enough to call for its  own disbandment seeing that they had experienced not slight, but massive hitches in their own congress? If the APC cannot manage its own internal affairs, how can it manage a country as complex as Nigeria?
We know the history of this party and the pedigree of its leaders will hardly yield to democracy, but we are confident that our assistance is handy here," the statement said.
As a failed project,i knew long ago that the APC was dead on arrival.Nigerians,be wise!
