"It's strange that despite all our efforts to ensure that we observe every detail of human rights requirement that any organisation is still desperate to compare us with terrorists.
"It is unfortunate. We feel the motive is suspect....
"But we know that in our own case, we have continued to try our best that human rights are not abused and we will continue to go by the best standard in our operations",Maj-Gen Olukolade said.

Comments By Some Governors Would Have Forced Me Out-President Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on monday berated some state governors for their uncomplimentary comments. The President said if 50 percent of the governors in the country spoke the way these governors have been doing,he would have by now vacated his seat for someone else.He made this remark when he recieved a delegation from the North-Central who paid him a solidarity visit.

He said, “We thank you for this solidarity visit and for giving us a Senate President that has been able to stabilise the National Assembly.

“The governors from the zone have not been stabilising  the country because of the way some of the governors talk and behave. If 50 per cent of the governors behave that way, probably, we would have vacated this place and allow others to come and manage it for us.

“But they have been able to help to stabilise the whole country. When the governors forum became a monster and we had a lot of challenges, it was the North-Central that came on board to stabilise the governors’ forum.

“So, the zone has been able to produce very great leaders, not just hat leaders but they are patriotic leaders, so, we will continue to work with this zone, we will continue  to encourage you. As we approach elections next year, let us know the problems on time. We will work with you to ensure PDP continues to maintain the zone.”

Being a President who has our security situation at heart,he also spoke about it saying our security outfits were being positioned in order to properly tackle the situation at hand.

“The security personnel are moving in to strengthen the conventional security; that is the police. But we are working very hard with the National Security Adviser’s Office to make sure that the security challenges that we have across the country, whether in Borno State or the kidnapping in Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Abia and so on. We are coming up with different architecture that will deal with this insurgence.  As we progress, we will begin to bring the situation under control,” he added.

Defected Lawmakers Have No Business Remaining In The House-Court

The fortunes of the PDP are once again on the rise as the All Progressive Congress seem to be losing all its battles. The PDP has landed the APC another major blow as expected.

The news is that a Federal High Court  in Abuja on monday ruled that the members of the House of Representatives who left the PDP for the APC have no business staying in the House having left the party that sponsored them during their elections.
Delivering the ruling,Justice Adeniyi Ademola said the 12th to 53rd defendants(the defectors)ought to have left the House Honourably after their defections going by the provisions of section 68 of the 1999 Constitution. The court held that going by the evidence before it,the PDP remained one party without division contrary to the position of the defected lawmakers.

Justice Adeniyi also said the defected lawmakers could not vote to remove the leadership of the house and also could not sponsor a motion to that effect.

APC Exposed Again As Marwa Defects To PDP

Once again, the undemocratic tendencies of the All Progressive Congress have been exposed as Former military Governor of Lagos State, Brig-General Buba Marwa (rtd) and his over three thousand  supporters have finally defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Marwa and his supporters said they decided to leave the APC fold as a result of the ceaseless acts of injustice, impunity and the glorification of undemocratic tenets by the leadership of the APC and governor Murtala Nyako.
"The party has been hijacked by Nyako and there was no fair play in the way and manner the party is being run. "Our attempts to get the issue addressed proved abortive as the
national secretariat of the party only paid a lip service to our complaints as they said as a sitting  governor, Nyako will help with the finance of the party," he said.

FG Recruits 8000 Into Federal Civil Service

Evidence that President Goodluck Jonathan was working hard to reduce unemployment in the country emerged yesterday as the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FRSC),Deaconess Joan Ayo stated that  Eight thousand, five hundred and forty one people were recruited into federal ministries, agencies and parastatals from 2011 to 2014.
Deaconess Ayo stated this during a press briefing in preparation for the 60th anniversary of civil service in Nigeria. She also stressed that majority of unemployed Nigerians had failed to take advantage of the commission's user friendly website in their quest for jobs. She said applicants have preferred instead to apply through forms.

Jonathan Condemns Governors On Security Situation

President Goodluck Jonathan has slamed some state governors who have attempted to blame the federal government for the country's security challenges. The President spoke during a PDP North-East rally held in Bauchi yesterday.
“I spent eight years at the state level and handled security challenges in Bayelsa State. It was the state where the first commercial kidnapping took place. More than 70 per cent of the state is slums. I was deputy governor and governor in that state and we know how we handled things,” the president said.
In a rather pointed reference to the Borno State governor, Jonathan said, “A governor will come and say bad leadership, the question to ask is, bad leadership from who? If we have security issues, whether Boko Haram or kidnappers or whatever, these are people who could not have primary school education, could not have secondary education and they have no hope. And miscreants, criminals recruit them and use them. If you see what they wear, they wear rags, they don't wear normal cloths. All they put on is not worth N10 but they carry assault rifles with bullets that are worth more than N250, 000. Somebody gives them food to eat so that they will have strength to kill.

“You ask, how do we build army of unemployed youths? The federal government does not control primary and secondary education and a governor has been on seat for almost eight years and he has people in that state that can't go to primary or secondary school. He has so many children who do not go to school and he opens his mouth and says bad leadership.”

“Governors must make sure that our students and our children go to primary schools and secondary schools. Somebody hides under the cover of politics and he cannot do his work for eight years or seven years. You still have so many children in their states not going to primary schools, not going to secondary school and you open your mouth to say bad leadership. The federal government should come and make your children in primary and nursery schools to go to school?

“Is it the federal government or Mr. President that will come and send your children to secondary schools?

“I have done my part and we will make sure that we fund these universities and improve the quality of education in these universities, but the state governors must do their job,” the president said.

Presidency Will Not Cover Up Corruption-Okupe

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe has declared that the Presidency will never cover up cases of corruption levelled against any individual or institution of government.

According to Okupe, “We wish to reiterate emphatically that President Goodluck Jonathan had never and will never condone any act of corruption no matter from which quarters such may come from”.

“The clarification has become necessary as a result of a mischievous publication by a newspaper which suggested falsely that my response to the planned probe by the House of Representatives on the hiring of a private jet by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation implied that the President was encouraging corruption”.

Okupe said “the true fact of the matter is that it is the House of Representatives that claimed to be in possession of certain documents relating to the leasing of private jets for which they decided to institute a probe”. Accordingly, he said, “The Presidency is not in possession of such papers neither has any petition relating to such issue been received by the Presidency. Therefore the Presidency is not in any position to investigate a matter that it has no fact or presentation on.

“It therefore becomes imperative that that the Presidency awaits the outcome of the on-going investigation by the House of Representatives before it can undertake any reasonable action.
“Just recently, Mr. President endorsed and directed that an alleged non-remittance of about $10 billion into the national coffers by the NNPC be subjected to a forensic audit by reputable international audit firm as suggested by the minister for finance"Okupe said.

The minister spoke of the federal government's intervention efforts in the North-East zone.“Farmers in the zone have been supported to produce cotton, sorghum, tomato and other vegetables due to their rich agricultural heritage”, he said.

In the area of education, the minister said government had established 10 universities in the North in the past four years - five in North-west, three in North-east and two in North-central.

“We have also constructed 125 Almajiri schools in the north, mostly in the north eastern states, furnished and handed over to the states to ensure that we take our children away from the streets. The idea is that in addition to Qura’anic education, which is important, they would also learn modern education for the growth and development of the nation.

“The President has also ordered the production of text books for supply to all public primary schools in the country. The books, which have been handed over to the various state governments, would be distributed free of charge to all pupils from primary one up to J SS3”, Maku said.

On Progressives And Pro-agressives-Written By Reno Omokri

All advertising is based on the theory of Proof by Repeated Assertion which provides that a proposition repeated and restated regularly using the mass media comes to be accepted as true irrespective of any contradictions in the proposition being asserted. This theory is very effective and even more so in the modern world where attention spans are limited and people read headlines and draw conclusions without reading the story. Gone are the days of Ronald Reagan where that great communicator urged us to "trust but verify". Nowadays, very few people are prepared to pay the intellectual price of verifying what they are served by the media and some individuals have clued in on this deficiency amongst Nigerians and the fact that we can be subliminally manipulated by what we read in the media and have used this deficiency against us.

You may disagree with me, but I will offer an elementary example. If you have been reading newspapers, listening to the radio or watching television, or even if you have been following the news online news media for the past year, you would have heard of the All Progressive Congress, APC, being described as a progressive party.  Many Nigerians have bought this asserted labeling hook, line and sinker. But do the facts bear this out?
A progressive party is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as a group "favoring or implementing social reform or new, liberal ideas" one that is "modern, liberal, advanced, forward-thinking, enlightened, enterprising, innovative, pioneering, dynamic, bold, avant-garde, reforming, reformist, radical".

Let us pay close attention to this definition and then let us consider the facts.
For the first part, a progressive party has to favor or implement social reform and promote new, liberal ideas. Can those who promote the All Progressive Congress truly say that the party favours or is implementing social reform and promotes new, liberal ideas?
In recent times, President Goodluck Jonathan recognized the fact that there are structural errors both in our constitution and in Nigeria's body politics and though he was previously against the idea of a National Conference, he realized that there was no way Nigeria could avoid it if we had to address the challenges that have caused friction amongst the people of Nigeria.

Thus, he conceived of the idea of having a National Conference in the year 2014 where those who were most vociferous in advocating the case of their region, group or professional and social organization could come and talk things out.
Obviously, objective persons would agree that this was a move that favored social reform and promoted new ideas that could radically change the way we do things in Nigeria.
However, the APC, which brands itself as a progressive party rejected the idea of a National Conference with many of its leaders saying that such a conference is unnecessary? Not stopping there, the APC asked its members not to participate in the conference, an advise which even its own governors wisely ignored.

The question to a reasonable by stander is going by the above, who between President Jonathan and the APC is progressive?

I offer another example.

Since the time of the late great President Umaru Musa Yar'adua, Nigeria has had issues with an insurgency in the form of the Boko Haram insurrection. If you have followed the media, the APC and its leaders have criticized the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan for its handling of the insurgency, yet, they have not provided an alternative strategy to contain the insurgency.
On the other hand, the man they have consistently criticized has provided and implemented the following strategies to contain the insurgency;
On the 1st of January, 2012, President Goodluck Jonathan temporarily closed Nigeria's borders with Niger, Chad and Cameroon to curtail the movements of arms and insurgents into Nigeria as well as declared a State of Emergency in some of the Local Governments most affected by the insurgency.
On the 24th of April, 2013, President Goodluck Jonathan inaugurated the Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of Security Challenges in the North to dialogue with the insurgents and explore opportunities for an amnesty.
On May 14th, 2013, President Goodluck Jonathan cut short his visit to South Africa and aborted a planned state visit to Namibia to address an upsurge in insurgent activities by declaring a State of Emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states and constitutionally and democratically left the governors and governments of those states intact.
On July 2nd 2013, President Goodluck Jonathan sent 25,000 metric tons of assorted food items to residents of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states to facilitate their participation in the fasting period. Borno state got 324 trailers of food, Yobe received 195 trailers and Adamawa got 170 trailer. An eye witness and indigene of one of the states on sighting the supplies said "this is an unprecedented initiative by the president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. I have not heard in history where this amount of food was released to any part of Nigeria in the past".
Finally, on the 18th of March, 2014, the Jonathan administration launched a major economic recovery plan for the Northeast tagged ' Soft Approach to Countering Terrorism” which involves de-radicalising extremists and stopping others from being radicalized, mobilizing the society through strategic public communication and economic revitalization of the North-East states affected by insurgency.

On the other hand, the strategy of the APC has been to criticize Nigeria's armed forces who are risking their lives by engaging the insurgents with the attendant risk that their morale could be affected. Without providing proof, they have alleged that the insurgents are better armed and motivated than our military personnel. This is besides the fact that they have blamed the military for civilian loss of life and damage to property without investigation.
Now, take a scale and weigh the responses of the President Goodluck Jonathan led Peoples Democratic Party administration and the All Progressive Congress's approach to the insurgency and let your conscience direct you on who between the two is truly a progressive.

If you go back in history, it will be recalled that of all the parties that existed in Nigeria in 2011, ONLY the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, engaged in a presidential primary on the 13th of January, 2011. All other parties, including the now defunct Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN and the All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, chose their presidential candidates either by consensus or by imposition.
Now, fast forward to the 3rd of March 2014. The All Progressive Congress, which is composed of those same parties which did not engage in presidential primaries, announced that in a poll that they carried out, their unnamed presidential candidate was more popular than President Goodluck Jonathan and would defeat him if an election was held immediately.
Discerning minds would have noticed that from the above information released by the APC, it appears that the three parties which coalesced into the APC are up to their old games. How can they know their presidential candidate in March of 2014 when they have not conducted a presidential primary?
The answer is because old habits die hard and just as they did in 2011, they do not intend to hold presidential primaries and plan to coronate their already chosen candidate by imposition.
So, I ask my readers, drop your biases and preconceived notions and consider what I have written to you with an open mind and ask yourself whether the APC is a progressive party as they say.

Remember that the Oxford English Dictionary describes a progressive as one who is "forward-thinking, enlightened, enterprising, innovative, pioneering and dynamic".
Who does this definition fit? The APC or the President Goodluck Jonathan led PDP administration? Let's further consider other facts.
If a progressive is "forward-thinking", what would you consider the action of President Jonathan in signing the Freedom of Information Act into law which essentially demystified governance and opened it up to the populace such that every Nigerian now has access to each line item of the executive's appropriation and can tell how much the President spends on feeding and other sundry expenses? Has it ever happened in Nigeria before?
If a progressive is "enlightened" certainly, President Jonathan fits that mould as a man who is enlightened enough to be led by conscience and not ego and was able to gather EVERY living former Head of State and President to the Presidential Villa last month irrespective of party affiliation or recent history in keeping with the statement he made on the 18th of September, 2010 that "I have no enemies to fight".
If a progressive is "enterprising" what would you call a man who met Nigeria's Per Capita Income at $1091 in 2009 and grew it to $1721 as at 2013 (/y5tfwwd)?
If a progressive is "innovative" then tens of thousands of young Nigerians are witnesses to the innovativeness of the President being beneficiaries of the Youth Enterprise With Innovation in Nigeria (YouWin) scheme which gave them quality business training and support as well as granted them between two and ten million Naira to start a business so they could employ other youths.
If a progressive is "pioneering" then what better effort can a man pioneer than to build schools for itinerant Islamic Scholars (aka Almajiri) complete with Malam's Quarters, Hostels, Qu'ranic Recitation Hall and Science Laboratories?

If a progressive is "dynamic" then the President who goes about Nigeria fulfilling promises he made is dynamic.
Giving the opposition propaganda in the media about the President not fulfilling his promises, some of my readers may ask, what promises, if any, has President Jonathan fulfilled?

I would attempt to list just a few of them.

If you live in Southeast Nigeria, some of the promises the President is fulfilling for you are the 2nd Niger Bride now under construction as well as the Enugu International Airport. If you live in Northwest Nigeria some of the promises the President is fulfilling for you are new universities and schools for almajiris. If you live in Southwest Nigeria, some of the promises the President is fulfilling for you are the revived railways and the ongoing reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan Rd. If you live in North-central Nigeria, some of the promises the President is fulfilling for you are the Zungeru Hydro Electric Dam, the Baro Port and the dredging of the River Niger. If you live in South south Nigeria, some of the promises the President is fulfilling for you are are the ongoing reconstruction of the Lagos-Ore-Benin road and the East-West road. If you live in Northeast Nigeria, some of the promises the President is fulfilling for you are a Green Belt to stop Desert Encroachment and new universities.
But perhaps the most significant promise the President has fulfilled to Nigerians is the promise of bequeathing free and fair elections for all.  In fact, after the APC governor of Edo state was re elected in July of 2012, he personally visited the President at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa to thank him for fulfilling his promise of ensuring free and fair elections. Governor Adams Oshiomhole's testimony with regards that election are so telling, so spontaneously true, that I think it best to reproduce them especially as he is of the APC.

Said Governor Oshiomhole,  “what the Edo election has confirmed is that when the President and Commander-in-Chief puts the country first and conducts himself as a statesman, not just as a party leader, credible elections are possible, because people were apprehensive that the Nigerian Army could be misused. But of course, I told them I didn’t think they were right, but the President’s clear directive was that the votes must count. He warned that there will be no rigging, no manipulation, no ballot snatching and orders were given to the Army to ensure none of those things happened and the Army carried out the order. The Police IG was similarly instructed. He deployed his men probably much more than we probably needed and they delivered on the President’s orders. The SSS were fantastic because they were always at the collating centres where some of the manipulations can take place".
You see, even an APC governor in a moment of candour recognizes the limits of propaganda. Recently, Local Government elections were carried out in some APC controlled states, I would eat my hat if anybody can come out and give the same testimony that Governor Oshiomhole gave with regards to those 'elections'!
I have had people complain to me that the opposition is outspending the government in the area of media propaganda and my response to them is that if a government keeps fulfilling its campaign promises to Nigerians, then Nigerians will open up their hearts to that government. President Goodluck Jonathan has a habit of delivering on his promises in a way that no one else has done before him and has a unique way of winning arguments with his detractors not by words but by results.
So for instance, his opponents may hold a rally and spend a good portion of their time insulting and disparaging the President rather than telling the people what they would do for them and think that they have achieved some big thing. But in actual fact, what they have communicated to thinking members of their audience is the fact that Nigerians enjoy a far greater measure of democratic freedoms under the leadership of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan because had someone else spoken in such a manner about some of these folk while they were in government they would certainly enjoy freedom of speech but not freedom after the speech. But today, they can say what they want to say without fear because we have a true progressive as President of Nigeria.
It is little things like this that give a clue as to who is really a progressive.

You see, being a progressive is not something that you become because you constantly parade yourself as such in the media. No. Being a progressive is just like being powerful. If you have to tell people you are powerful then you are not really powerful.

A true progressive is a newsmaker and not a noisemaker. He makes the news because he has something to say and something tangible to deliver. A false progressive is a noisemaker who makes the news because he wants to say something, not because he has something to say. And I wager that in the final analysis, Nigerians are wise enough to know that if it is not panadol it can not be the same as panadol.

De-register APC Now-IPAC

The Inter-Party Advisory Council(IPAC) yesterday threatened to sue the Independent National Electoral Commission if it did not de-register the All Progressive Congress for over-heating the polity and constantly abusing President Goodluck Jonathan.IPAC stated that it had concluded plans to drag the commission to court to seek an order of mandamus compelling it to withdraw APC's Certificate.
Anambra State chairman of IPAC,Chief Ken Emeakayi said APC by its actions had breached several sections of both The Constitution and the IPAC Code of Conduct."APC was also heating up the polity and attacking President Goodluck Jonathan and some members of his cabinet",he said.
Emeakayi said the continued existence of the APC contravened the provisions of section 222 of the Constitution which provides for election of party officials on periodic basis.

“We want it to be clearly understood that by voting for these resolutions, Nigeria neither supports nor opposes any particular country or group of countries.

Military captures insurgents,kill 11 others

The battle against insurgency recorded another success yesterday as military forces apprehended insurgents attempting to flee to Cameroon while killing 11 others.
The Director, Defence Information,Maj.-Gen. Chris Olukolade, disclosed this in a statement yesterday which said the insurgents were attacked by troops on patrol.

According to him, "the terrorists were trapped following the ongoing offensive launched by troops along the borders. Some of them could no longer bear the hunger in their make-shift camps at the forest. Those apprehended led the troops to some hideouts where fierce fighting ensued and seven terrorists died, while Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs, rifles and 70 motorcycles were recovered."
According to the director "a similar encounter in Gumbi also led to the death of four other terrorists."

Indeed, the military is doing a great job.

Nigeria Is Committed To Pursue Efforts At Harnessing Nuclear Energy-Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to global fight against the threat of nuclear terrorism.Assuring that Nigeria under his leadership would do all that is possible in harnessing nuclear energy and technology for socio-economic development.

President Jonathant stated this at The Hague, Netherlands, during the third global security summit.
"While this is important, we would also like to draw attention to the need to maintain the highest standards of nuclear safety and security in establishing peaceful nuclear facilities," Jonathan stated. While addressing the gathering, the president restated Nigeria's commitment to the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and the peaceful use of nuclear technology.

"Nigeria accords high priority to all global efforts towards ending the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their means of delivery, including nuclear weapons.

"To this end, Nigeria has since the last Summit in Seoul, South Korea, strengthened the legal framework for fighting terrorism through the adoption in 2013 of an amendment to its Terrorism (Prevention) Act, thus ensuring the implementation of more robust counter-terrorism measures in the country.

"Nigeria's ratification of some international treaties and conventions in the realm of nuclear safety, security and safeguards has necessitated the review of the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority Act resulting in the recent decision of the government to submit a new bill to the parliament for consideration and passage into law in order to accommodate our obligations under these instruments.

"The instruments include the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Materials and its amended version of 2005-the International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism. The intention of the bill is to ensure the fulfillment of Nigeria's international and national Nuclear safety, security, safeguards and radiation protection obligations, by domesticating the international treaties. The bill is presently awaiting passage by the National Assembly",the President said.

Ayo Fayose:The Man Who Is Out To Salvage Ekiti State

He once ruled Ekiti State as an executive governor, during which time he discharged his duties with all deligence and dedication. He never failed to place the walfare of the people of Ekiti topmost on his agenda. No wonder he recently emerged the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,for the June 21 governorship election in the state. At the recently concluded primaries,Mr. Fayose emerged winner with 462 votes out of a total of 477 votes cast.

Fayose who is fondly referred to as the Architect of Modern Ekiti has the record of being the first governor in Ekiti State to award and complete dual road construction. His government was also responsible for the installation of the first street lights in Ekiti State.Governors after him only built on his legacy. His works made Ekiti what we have today.Once again,he desires to govern Ekiti as an executive governor,to enable him liberate the state from the anti-people policies of governor Kayode Fayemi.Ayo Fayose is also out to liberate his people from the bondage of godfatherism which is part of Bola Tinubu's DNA and the trademark of the All Progressive Congress.

I am optimistic that Fayose would defeat his opponents at the poll just like he too has promised not to let his people down by“wrestling power from the incumbent governor Fayemi of APC”.This gang of desperados called APC have to be sent out of Ekiti State. He needs the support of all Sons and daughters of Ekiti, both in Nigeria and in diaspora.

APC Can't Take Nigerians To The Promised Land-Sule Lamido

Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State has stated that the All Progressive Congress lacked clear-cut political ideology and democratic attributes that could take Nigeria to the promised land.He described the party as one dependent on names of some individuals for its survival unlike the People's Democratic Party that had been in existence for over 14 years an still waxing stronger.
The governor said"We stood against Abacha and formed the PDP, which restored hope and value to the Nigerian citizens.
"Masari, Ribadu and the rest were also the invention of the PDP that made them to recover their lost voices of today," he stated.
"In 1998 we zoned the presidency to the South-west because we wanted a Yoruba to be Nigeria's  president  and we chose Obasanjo, even though his people did not like him but we did so for his passion for this country, which made other political parties begin to copy us", he said.
"The choice of Obasanjo though he was in prison, became necessary in order to appease the Yorubas who were angry over the annulment of Chief Abiola's election by Babangida, and at that time the people from the North were viewed with contempt and disdain because of the past military leadership".
Speaking further,Lamido said "the PDP of today can thrive without any personality within the party, which he said is not the same in other political parties that were anchored around somebody's fame or popularity," stressing that, "Nigeria as the largest nation of blacks people cannot be governed by fame".

A former governor of Sokoto State,Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa has declared that the days of the APC-led State government in Sokoto were numbered.Bafarawa who recently paid the school fees of 153 students who got admission into Usman Danfodio University made the declaration when the students paid him a courtesy call.

He said"The days of this government are numbered and by 2015, we will take over this government. PDP will take care of these problems affecting students in the next few months.
"Therefore, I am urging you to exercise patience and by the grace of God, we will wrest power from the APC-led administration next year," Bafarawa stressed.

He called on the State governor Aliyu Wamako to assist in paying the tuition fees of the students.
"This government built a state university but unfortunately cannot afford to pay the fees of these unfortunate students whose parents are indigent. Goodluck Jonathan Not Incompetent

The All Progressive Congress by thier acts and utterances have now made me believe that truely, empty vessels make the loudest noise. This party since formation has continued to wallow in ignorance with each passing day.All they know is attack the President, the PDP and the federal government with thier use of gutter language. They seem to have a phobia for issue-based politics or criticisms. The PDP had declared that the constant criticism targeted at Mr President was as a result of his minority origin and the desire of his antagonists to discredit him.To this, the loquacious National Publicity Secretary of the APC Lai Mohammed issued a statement in reply. He said"President Jonathan's woes have nothing to do with his minority ethnicity, but the manifestation of his incompetence, cluelessness and inferiority complex, and the fact that he is backed by a greedy, visionless and crooked cabal both within his government and his party,"the APC said.Whoever expected Lai Mohammed to release a press statement not laced with insults and abuses must has felt so dissappointed.
President Jonathan without doubt has transformed all the sectors of our economy. From  Agriculture to Aviation,Transportation,Infrastructure,Power, etc.I can imagine the National Leader of the APC Bola Tinubu throwing his face the other way each time he sees trains in Lagos State moving goods to the North and back.Restoration of rail transport is one of the many product of the President's transformational agenda but the APC will never give credit to this administration for any of its achievements.
Dissappointed by the baseless criticisms targeted at  President Jonathan by the APC,the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP Chief Olisa Metuh recently issued a statement challenging the APC to a debate on President Jonathan's achievements in office.According to the PDP,the debate would be based on zone by zone, and sector by sector. One would have expected the APC to pick up this challenge by ceasing the oppurtunity with both hands and address Nigerians on their alleged many"sins"of President Jonathan. But no,the APC we know will never succumb to any issue-based debate.
Yes,Alhaji Lai Mohammed talked about cluelessness. If anyone is clueless here,it definitely is Lai Mohammed.I doubt if he properly understands the duties of a publicist,as he seems to be more grounded in the art of abusing and insulting.Nigerians definitely understand the plans of the APC;which is to discredit this government by use of propaganda, but this will not work.
President Jonathan remains focused on his mission to build Nigeria and the APC can not stop this.

Boko Haram:Cameroonian weapon supplier arrested

As the Nigerian Military continues to work towards puting an end to the insurgency crisis,a cameroonian who supplies arms to the terrorists has been arrested.
According to a statement issued friday by the Director of Defence Information (DDI), Maj-Gen. Chris Olukolade, the arrest of the Cameroonian has led to the discovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition hidden in the premises of a burnt church in Kalabalge Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to Olukolad, the recovered weapons included anti aircraft guns, rocket propelled guns as well as the General Purpose and other brands of machine guns.
"Also recovered from the location were thousands of various calibers of rounds of ammunition and links," he said.

The statement also said the weapons were meant for a pending attack on some communities around Nigeria- Cameroon border. "The weapons have all been evacuated while guard locations and patrols are being maintained in the general area and the surrounding localities," he said.
The arrest of the cameroonian gives evidence to the fact that the terrorists have members from other countries in their ranks.
Kudos to our Military.

Police Pension Fund Not Missing-Okonjo-Iweala Insist'

Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has described the allegations by the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts, Hon. Solomon Olamilekan that N24bn was missing from the Police pension account as “ridiculous and false.”
The minister through her Special Adviser Communications, Mr Paul Nwabuikwu, said the money was not missing but that the minister was being accused for taking steps in making sure public funds were not stolen.
“It is unfortunate that the Chairman has persisted in using his privileged platform to disseminate such distortions even though the Minister has repeatedly explained to the Committee that the money was an overpayment based on the demands of those trying to steal from pension funds which was successfully blocked and the money returned to the treasury by the minister.
“This persistence in peddling this untruth suggests that this is yet another attempt to tarnish the image of the Minister for partisan political reasons and to take public attention away from the positive efforts to reform the historically problematic pensions sector.
“It is indeed a sad irony that the Committee Chairman is attacking the Minister for taking action to ensure that public money was not stolen, but put back into the treasury where it belongs.”
“The Minister is currently out of the country but she is ready and willing to take up the challenge posed by the Committee Chairman for a public discussion on the issue.
“Beyond this issue, she also looks forward to the opportunity to throw light on the status of pension reforms and the Federal Government’s efforts to fix the problems of the sector in a sustainable way,” it concluded.

APC And The Roadmap To Nowhere

This is an article published by Vanguard.I have decided to republish same here due to its expository and interesting contents.Enjoy

The other week, the leading opposition party, the All Progressive Congress,APC,took its predilection for obfuscation to another level by engaging in self-serving opinion poll.
For those who have followed the politics of Jonathan bashing and anti-PDP propaganda by the APC leadership, the result of the self-commissioned public opinion survey on the approval rating of President Goodluck Jonathan does not leave anything to guess. And the fact that the purported survey is part of the process of unveiling the party's manifesto, which it calls"Roadmap to a New Nigeria",the picture of an unreliable opinion poll is complete.
It seems that APC is now replying critics who have taunted them with the fact that nobody really knows what the party believes in or stands for other than criticising everything under the sun with imprematur of President Jonathan. For the most part, what the party does is to wait for Jonathan to drink water and then issue a statement that it was inappropriate for the Nigerian President to take fluid at that time of the day.
This is how infantile the APC has become in its role as the opposition party. It was therefore reassuring to hear from the leadership of the APC that the party was ready with its agenda document or manifesto.Atleast, this would help citizens in making up their minds between the ruling People's Democratic Party,PDP and the APC.
It is rather unfortunate that the APC has characteristically destroyed the roadmap before its unveiling by muddling it up with a questionable opinion poll with predetermined conclusions. Why is the APC making the mistake of thinking that the only way to market its manifesto is by wrapping it in the dirty shroud of an opinion poll, which only those who do not live in this country can see as objective?
Since the APC emerged as a political party  with the loss of the identity of its parent political parties like Action Congress of Nigeria,ACN,the Congress for Progressive Change,CPC,and the All Nigerian People's party,ANPP,the new party has been in a frantic search  of its own identity  and soul different from that of the strange bedfellows that fused rather inchoately to upset the ruling PDP.
The desperate strategy of membership drive adopted by the APC defined by the poaching of discredited PDP members of yesterday now adorned in APC's saintly ,if not hypocritical robes, has caught the attention of the Nigerian Public. And questions upon questions are now being raised over the identity and the idiological trajectory of the new party with all its messianic claims and pretensions.
Yes,the antics of the Tinubu's of this world need no further introduction and so is Buhari's high-handedness,rigidity,self-righteousness and even tinge of ethnocentrism. But what was not fathomable to the people was the emerging trend that the holier-than-thou APC would fall back on those they categorically labelled as"a murderous gang"yesterday,as the spine of the party.
Today,Atiku Abubakar is a progressive and so is governor Rotimi Amaechi.Another governor whom even journalists covering the PDP saw loading electoral materials into a vehicle with the Chairman of his state's gubernatorial primaries committee the morning before the PDP election that handed him the party ticket is now a progressive advocating for free and fair elections in 2015!In fact,if General Abacha wakes up from the grave today and joins the APC,he would be shown off as a progressive politician.Such is the identity crisis of the main opposition party, APC.
It is this self-inflicted identity crisis that has led the APC unwittingly to compound its problems by engaging the American firm AKPD Message and Media,a public relations shop,to fix its image problem.
This is without the vehement protest from the national body,Public Relations Consultants Association of Nigeria,PRCAN,who insist that the APC move is scandalous and without regards for the competency of the Nigerian professionals..Yet,this is the same APC that is claiming that Jonathan has done nothing in the area of job creation!
The Chido Nwakamma group raised a more fundamental issue away from trade union concerns, which is the unique nature of local nuances that seem to affect political behaviour here and yet very difficult for any foreign pollster to comprehend. In a simple language,it is not enough for the APC to quote us the"Obama example" or other incredible feats of its consultants in helping democratic movements elsewhere. The question remains, what is the example of AKPD in a multi-ethnic and largely illiterate country like Nigeria?
The lack of understanding of the political climate and the character of the population, which the APC consultants"researched"on,more than invalidates the outcome of the survey. And there are, indeed, other methodological issues which, when put together, tend to suggest that the presidency is apt in describing the APC opinion polling as an exercise in quackery.
First, which population was being studied? Is it the educated alone or urban resident? What kind of sampling method was being adopted? How representative of the population were the samples? How sure are we that respondents understood the questions put to them?
Some of the purported outcomes of the inquiry can only validate the methodological flaws in the APC polling and nothing more. How can a social researcher claim that Nigerians prefer to vote for APC candidate against Jonathan when APC has no candidate?Does it also imply that even if APC fields a dog against Jonathan,Nigerians will vote a dog? This is another APC sleight of the hand. When APC and its consultant set about collecting data to suit a predetermined answer which in academics is roguery anyway, they forget that voting behaviour is not only determined by partisan identification.
Other factors that influence vote choice in the literature includes issues, personality and ethnicity. To pretend that these factors are not important in a highly divided society like ours by a "public opinion consultant" and a poliitical party angling for power is the height of deceit. Moreover, even in terms of partisan identification,PDP is far ahead of the APC and any polling that seems to suggest otherwise is patently unreliable.
For some weeks now,APC has been staking its claim of popularity against the PDP to its own detriment. They tried it in the House of Representative and were out-numbered by the PDP.They tried it in the Senate and the ruling party left it with a black eye.The latest attempt at exaggerating its popular acceptability by hiring a largely public relation company and mistaking it for a research organisation only confirms that the party is embarking on a journey to nowhere, or perhaps they are headed for the Red Sea as Dr Doyin Okupe had earlier predicted.

Nigeria Records High Turnover On Investment-Samuel Ortom

As the Nigerian economy continues to grow under this administration, attracting more foreign investors almost on a daily basis, the Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Samuel Ortom has described the turnover on investment in Nigeria as high and very attractive to investors all over the world. He made the statement during a courtesy visit by some Chinese Investors, who were led by the Chairman of the Beijing Yeaco Investment Consulting Company (Africa Investment Net), Zhou Dewer in his office in Abuja.

The Minister said that the Nigeria - China Business Forum organized by the Ministry has started yielding results by attracting many Chinese investments into the country and urged the investors to maximize the economic potentials available in Nigeria. “Nigeria is an investment designation because of her landscape, natural and human resources as well as population. Our desire is to have enough investors coming into the country to invest and produce goods in the country that would offer opportunities for jobs and wealth creation for Nigerians,” he said.

“We will stand by you to ensure that you do not regret coming to Nigeria. Opportunities abound in all sectors of our economy and through Nigeria you can reach other African countries.” He reiterated that Nigeria and China are committed to promoting bilateral and investment relations as well as sharing experiences on industry, trade and investment.
The leader of the Chinese delegation, Zhou Dewer pointed out that Nigeria has great potentials, natural resources and opportunities for investment; saying the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment is the key ministry that links up investors for more opportunities in the country.

National Conference Secretariat Releases Draft Rules

According to  Daily Independent, the Secretariat of the National Conference has on Thursday in Abuja, released the Draft Rules of Proceedings to guide the conduct of the delegates to the conference.
Mr Akpandem James, Assistant Secretary, Media and Communications of the Conference, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the Rules would be adopted by the delegates on Monday.

“The Draft Rules and the 1999 Constitution have been ready since 6 a.m. this morning and we have made them available to the delegates to study.
“However, it is only a draft; it is going to be debated clause by clause by the delegates on Monday. If they (delegates) adopt it, then it becomes the Rules guiding the conference.
“But if there is any clause they feel should be amended or rejected, then they will decide at the  plenary on Monday.
“What we are trying to do as a secretariat is to make the delegates as comfortable as possible to ensure smooth proceedings throughout the conference,” James said.
NAN reports that some of the delegates had already collected copies of the Draft Rules and the 1999 Constitution.

Again APC And LP Members Defect To PDP

Members of the APC seem to be tired of the numerous deceptive moves of the APC and its leader especially in Lagos state. The testimony is the huge number of APC and LP members who defected to the PDP in the Oshodi Isolo part of Lagos on thursday. They sited undemocratic practices in their former parties as the reason for thier defection.Among the defected members,600 were from the APC while 100 joined from the LP.The leader of the group of defectors Chief Segun Agbabiaka spoke at the event unbehalf of others,he said"2015 is around the corner and already we are being told who will represent us even when the primaries have not been held. There is somuch we are grieved about especially with the 2015 elections by the corner. We need a platform that will give a level playing ground to all members"
I have always maintained that the APC was a party filled with deceit, its members can now see for themselves.Long Live PDP

APC Plans To Violently Take Over Power-PDP

The PDP has exposed alleged plans by the APC to violently take over power from President Goodluck Jonathan. This was contained in a statement issued bt the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP,Chief Olisa Metuh.
"The  People's Democratic Party has punctured an attempt by the the All Progressive Congress APC to dismiss its complicity in the rising wave of insurgency and its concomitant adverse effects on national governance by drawing an incongruent comparism between a democratically elected presidency with proven fidelity to democratic tenets and defunct military dictatorships.
"The unfortunate comparism by the APC was a tacit acknowledgement that this opposition party was planning to take Nigeria back to dictatorship",the statement read.

Nigeria Will No Longer Treat Terrorists With Kid Gloves-Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan has declared that Nigeria will no longer treat terrorists in the country with kid gloves. He made this declaration while holding bilateral talks with the Namibian President on thursday, after which both countries signed MOU.

“The issue of global terror is worrisome and in Nigeria, we believe that a terror attack on anywhere in the world is a terror attack on everyone.
“It may be more in one country compare to the other, for instance, in the North-Eastern parts of Nigeria, three states out of 36 states, we are having incidence of terror.
“Initially, we handle it with kid’s glove, but now we have decided to be a little more forceful because we must thrash out these terror groups.
“We must not allow it to continue to slow down economic growth in that part of the country.
“With the terror attacks in that part of the country, the rest of the country feel it because Nigerians live everywhere.
“In these other parts, there is always the fear that if you do not tackle it, it will infiltrate in these other parts.
“We will work together to ensure that terror attack is stamped out globally and in Nigeria, we are committed'',the President said.
