No Blackmail Can Stop Goodluck Jonathan

I read an article by the former Chairman of the National Democratic party,Prince Chudi Chukwuani where he said President Goodluck Jonathan should selve his undeclared 2015 Presidential ambition in order to ease the tension in the country.He stated that the heat in the polity and the Boko Haram insurgency were all as a result of President Jonathan's percieved ambition.He urged the President to concentrate more on providing good leadership and according to him,the lack of good leadership gave birth to the insurgency.
In as much as i agree with his advice to the President on the issue of providing good leadership,which the President is already doing,i beg to disagree on the issue of the President shelving his legitimate ambition with the following points;
  • Nigeria as a country belongs to all of us and if that is true,no one should intimidate the other for any reason and it will be an act of cowardice for any member of our society to bow down to intimidation.
  • In 1983 Nigerians including the South-South voted enmass for Shehu Shagari and he stayed for 8 years until his brother Gen.Buhari sacked him.We also voted for Olusegun Obasanjo in 1999 and he ruled for 8 years.During this period,no region tried to heat up the polity because of the believe that Nigeria was and is for everybody equally.
  • Now President Jonathan is in power,he is transforming the nation in many ways,many people are uncomfortable because he has blocked all their dubious sources of economic empowerment,they have therefore resulted to blackmail,in order to make sure the President does not concentrate on  governence and also not get a second term and people are saying the President should bow to these?No way.
  • Boko Haram's desire according to their various statements is to islamise Nigeria.They have not said lack of good leadership is the reason for their cowardly killing of innocent citizens.The government on several occassions have expresssed readiness to grant the sect amnesty and listen to their grievances,but they have refused this.Now how can someone say this acts of terrorism are as a result of lack of good leadership?I disagree
President Jonathan like every other President before him has a legitimate right to seek another term in office and nobody or group can stop him.If he decides to seek re-election,then let the electorate decide his fate.
